Easy route planning

Easy cycle route planning starts at the top of the screen with the fields From and To. You can also select 'My Current Location' (which is determined by your internet connection to our website. When you visit the Route Planner your computer will ask if you give permission for it to pass on your location. If you decline, you will see a map of the whole country). Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to change your current location.

As you begin to type in one of the text fields, the Route Planner will come up with suggestions for the locations you are looking for. This can be a street name or address, but also for example a train station, a café or a museum. (See list of available locations). Once the correct location comes up you can click on it.

Once both fields are completed you can click on Get Directions.

The Route Planner now calculates your route. The default route type is Limited Stops, which is an easy to follow cycle route. After a few moments your route will appear on the left-hand side along with options for printing, exporting to GPS, saving and sharing via email, Twitter, Facebook and Google+. For saving your routes, you need to have created a free Fietsersbond account.

From the drop-down menu you can change the route type. As soon as you choose a different route type the Route Planner calculates a new route. So for example, you can easily change to a scenic route or a Junction Network one. See the list of route types for more information.

About the closure of the Afsluitdijk and Houtribdijk

The Afsluitdijk is closed for a longer period. A free shuttle bus is used as a replacement. See https://www.deafsluitdijk.nl/fietsbus-dienstregeling/ for the exact stops and departure times. (It is in Dutch, so you’ll might have to Google Translate it). On the Afsluitdijk page, there is also additional information for groups and cyclists with different bicycle models, such as the velomobile.

(The planner shows the situation as it is, for the Fietersbond opion about the closure and the petition to keep it open, see https://www.fietsersbond.nl/houd-de-afsluitdijk-open-voor-fietsers-en-voetgangers/  (in Dutch))

The cycle path itself is closed in the planner. We have put the shuttle bus as a "ferry" in the planner. This means that you will receive a warning in the planner that the route is not always available. There are "ferry" icons at the stops that you can click on for departure times. Always check the website mentioned above before you start your trip, we cannot guarantee that our information is up-to-date.

The route planner will by default include the shuttle bus as an option. In the desktop version, the "avoid ferries" option allows you to avoid the shuttle bus (and therefore the Afsluitdijk). Note: alternative boat routes across the IJsselmeer are also avoided with that option. So if you do not want to take the shuttle bus, but want to go by boat, you will have to plan it manually with via points.

Alternative routes across the IJsselmeer are the boat services Enkhuizen-Stavoren or Enkhuizen-Urk.

LF routes will continue to run on the Afsluitdijk and Houtribdijk along the cycle path in the planner. This type of route does avoid road works, unless we manually redirect them via a diversion route.
